As a leader in the healthcare industry, I have come to appreciate the importance of positivity and reward in getting the best out of my team. Whether it is in the ICU or any other professional setting, recognizing and celebrating excellence can go a long way in motivating people to do their best work.
One of the most effective ways to motivate people is by using rewards. These rewards do not always have to be financial. Sometimes, simple recognition of one's efforts and accomplishments can be more meaningful than a bonus. Celebrating success can be a powerful motivator that inspires people to keep striving for excellence.
For instance, in my own personal life, we have a tradition in our household where we reward our children for finishing their meals. We call it "beast mode." If they finish their plates, they get to take off their shirts, stand on the chair, flex their muscles, and go "beast mode." It may sound silly, but it works. Our children are fantastic eaters because they are motivated by the reward.
The same principles apply to leadership. When we recognize the hard work and dedication of our team members, we create a culture of positivity and motivation. This culture inspires people to do their best work, and it fosters an environment of collaboration and teamwork.
As leaders, we need to be intentional about recognizing and celebrating excellence. We need to create a lens of positivity, where we focus on what is going well and how we can build on that success. By doing so, we create a culture of positivity that inspires people to do their best work.
Of course, this does not mean that we should ignore areas that need improvement. We still need to address issues and provide constructive feedback when necessary. However, we should approach these conversations from a place of positivity and encouragement, rather than negativity and criticism.
Ultimately as leaders, we need to recognize and celebrate excellence in our teams. We need to lean on positivity and rewards to motivate people to do their best work. By doing so, we can create a culture of positivity that fosters collaboration, teamwork, and success.
